Entre el 13 y el 15 de junio, Voices of Change (Voces de Cambio), una delegación de jóvenes austríacas de Súdwind (Vientos del Sur), viajaron a Ginebra, Suiza para conocer mejor el sistema de Naciones Unidas y su labor. La delegación de jóvenes ha estado trabajando para elevar sus voces en favor de la Justicia Climática.
Juan José Hurtado, Director de la Asociación Pop No’j de Guatemala, tuvo la oportunidad de acompañarles en esta experiencia.
Asistieron a la Sesión Inaugural de la Sesión 50 del Consejo de Derechos Humanos de las Naciones Unidas en la que la actual Alta Comisionada de Derechos Humanos de las NN.UU. Michelle Bachelet presentó su informe anual y a otras sesiones posteriores.
Fue una oportunidad también para intercambiar con otras organizaciones e instituciones que tienen presencia en este evento.
Además, el martes 14 de junio, desarrollaron un evento paralelo en el que se compartió el informe “Más allá del Pánico. Explorando la Movilidad Humana y el Cambio Climático en Guatemala, Senegal, Kenya y Camboya”. En el mismo intervinieron Sarah Walker, por la Universidad de Bolonia, Olivia Wasik, de la Delegación Austríaca de Jóvenes y Juan José Hurtado, de la Asociación Pop No’j, facilitado por Ana María Suárez-Franco, de FIAN. También hubo un mensaje en video de Mustapha Dieng, Secretario General del Sindicato de Pescadores de Senegal.
Entre los asistentes, se contó con la participación de representantes del gobierno de Guatemala en Ginebra y otras personas interesadas de diversas organizaciones y distintos países.
El informe contiene varias recomendaciones por país y generales, las cuales se espera sean retomadas por los Estados y por las Naciones Unidas para trabajar por la justicia climática en el mundo.
“CLIMATE JUSTICE IS NECESSARY”
Between June 13 and 15, a Voices of Change, a Südwing Youth Delegation of Austrians, traveled to Geneva, Switzerland, to learn more about the United Nations system and its work. The Youth Delegation has been working to raise their voices for Climate Justice.
Juan José Hurtado, Director of the Guatemalan Pop No’j Association, had the opportunity to accompany them in this experience.
They attended the Inaugural Session of the 50th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, in which the current UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, presented her annual report, and other subsequent sessions.
It was also an opportunity to exchange with other organizations and institutions that have a presence at this event.
In addition, on Tuesday, June 14, they developed a side event in which the report “Beyond Panic.. Exploring Human Mobility and Climate Change in Guatemala, Senegal, Kenya and Cambodia” was shared. Speakers included Sarah Walker, from the University of Bologna, Olivia Wasik, from the Austrian Youth Delegation and Juan José Hurtado, from Asociación Pop No’j, facilitated by Ana María Suárez-Franco, from FIAN. There was also a video message from Mustapha Dieng, General Secretary of the Senegal Fishermen’s Union.
Among the attendees, there was the participation of representatives of the Guatemalan government in Geneva and other interested persons from various organizations and different countries.
The report contains several recommendations by country and general, which are expected to be taken up by the States and by the United Nations to work for climate justice in the world
